Great Eastern Zonal Safari
- Scouts in Tanzania and neighbouring countries are raising awareness of key issues such as drug abuse, HIV/AIDS, sustainable environmental development and peace education. They have planned a 15-day journey from Dar es Salaam in Tanzania to Nairobi in Kenya and as they travel they will run activities for young people in the local communities on these key global issues.
Let's disarm our children!
- Scouts in Brazil are launching the “Let's disarm our children!” project. They are educating young people to stay away from firearms of any kind, even toy guns. They are learning to understand how destructive the use of firearms is and how to resolve disputes through dialogue and compromise.
Scouting 4 Healthy Confident Young People
- Scouts in New Zealand are promoting health education for a range of serious issues facing young people today. They are raising awareness of skin cancer and educating young people to combat obesity, psychological abuse, physical abuse, substance abuse and the growing problem of youth suicide.
Solidarity for Peace
- Kuwait Scouts are implementing a series of solidarity programmes to support their communities and people in need outside Kuwait. They will support community development, health awareness, the collection of spectacles for those in need, donation campaigns, collection of school materials, supporting the Hajj (pilgrimage) and promoting cultural exchanges at Kuwaiti national Scout events.
The Rebirth of the Phoenix
- Scouts in Lebanon are coordinating the 'Rebirth of the Phoenix' project, bringing together Rover Scouts and leaders from around the world to assist in the rebuilding of Southern Lebanon after the conflict, distributing relief to displaced citizens, developing environmental and health campaigns, and educational programs for families and children.
Scouting – Responding to key issues
- Scouts in Barbados are being trained to respond to the key issues facing young people on the island today. These issues are: HIV/AIDS, drug abuse and disaster awareness. The Scouts are learning about these issues in order to support others, live healthier lives and be better prepared for the hurricanes which hit the island annually.
Peer Education for Peace
- Scouts in Oman are helping to educate their communities through a peer education project which aims to increase awareness in young people of specific health issues in society. In this way, young people will be able to help to protect themselves and their friends and relatives from harm.
Pick-up – Don't drop
- Scouts in ten regions of Ghana are working with young people to clean up their communities and encourage people not to drop their rubbish on the streets.
Fighting drug abuse, alcohol abuse and HIV/AIDS
- Scouts in Zimbabwe are working to spread awareness of the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse, and the link from these to HIV/AIDS, which is a huge problem in their country.
Combating domestic violence and the abuse of women and children
- Scouts in Namibia are responding to the issue of domestic violence by training leaders and running projects for Scouts. The aim is to help all Scouts understand domestic violence and have at least one practical method of dealing with violence in their own lives.
Building hope in the homeless
- Scouts in Malawi are working to improve the health and living conditions of young people living on the streets. Young people will be helped to develop life-skills to build their self-confidence and self-esteem. Thirty young people will be trained initially and then though a peer education and support system the project will reach out to other young people.
Civic Involvement of Scouts for Peace in Madagascar
- Scouts in Madagascar are raising awareness of health and environmental problems and taking action to make a difference. Their “Civic Involvement of Scouts for Peace in Madagascar” project includes fundraising to buy medical drugs, repairing hospital toilets, HIV/AIDS. awareness, planting trees and making people aware of environmental problems.
HIV/AIDs Education for Young People
- 4 million South Africans, and 25 million people in Africa, are infected with HIV/AIDS. Over 50% of new infections with HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, now occur in young people. Scouts in South Africa believe that together, Scouts around the world can change the course of this disease and they are leading the way with a peer education programme.
Place the displaced
- Scouts in Nepal are working to improve the living conditions for displaced people living in Kohalapur, who have fled the violence in the far west and mid west of Nepal.
Ruahanrakentaja
- Scouts and Guides in Finland are working on developing peace education for young people. They are developing local projects in their communities to explore the different dimensions of peace and are also participating in a national project with UNICEF which supports children in need in Carelia, a neighbouring area in Russia.
India's Gift for Peace
- Scouts in India are working on a very special Gifts for Peace project based on the positive Gandhian concept of “Sarva Dharma Sambhav” (equal respect for all religions) in order to address two key issues in society: conflict in communities and religious intolerance.
Building on past experience – Looking to the future
- Scouts in the United Kingdom are focusing on a wide range of projects, including anti-bullying, leadership development for people from socially deprived areas, developing global awareness and international partnerships, tackling social exclusion amongst young people, developing Scouting in ethnic minority communities and producing cultural awareness training.

- Scouts in Bulgaria are working to support children who have been placed in special homes following acts of aggression or delinquent behaviour. They are helping them to develop social skills, create friendships, reduce aggression and reintegrate into society.
Bridging the digital divide
- Scouts in Taiwan are working to overcome the digital divide by teaching school children in the remote countryside computer technology.
Rehabilitation and reintegration of child soldiers and street children into society
- Scouts in Sierra Leone are supporting the rehabilitation and re-education of former child-soldiers and other marginalised young people who have been left with few opportunities in life after a 10 year civil war.
Gifts for Peace, Scouts in Action
- Scouts in Hong Kong are working on four key projects to: promote social equality and the support the integration of immigrant groups in Hong Kong, raise awareness about disabilities and support the integration of children with special needs into Scouting, support adolescents involved in criminal activities and help them to find alternative solutions and finally to promote environmental sustainability.
Let's Build a School in Africa!
- Scouts in the Czech Republic are learning about the importance of education and raising funds to build schools in Ethiopia and support other young people who have few opportunities for education.
Investing in the environment
- Scouts in Panama are building a national campsite for Scouts, Guides and other young people which will introduce them to living in natural surroundings and provide them with educational opportunities for structured courses on forestry, eco-tourism, hiking, and camping.
Peace March
- Scouts and Guides in Italy are taking action to promote peace to a national and international audience by participating in a 20-kilometre Peace March from Perugia to Assisi in 2007. Prior to the March there will be a three day event called "United Nations of Youth", to debate and exchange information with young people from different life experiences and backgrounds.
Taking care of Talibés of Daaras.
- Scouts in Senegal, in collaboration with the Daaras (koranic schools) teachers, are working to improve the living conditions of the young talibés (students) who often have to beg and live in the streets.
Let's save our indigenous trees
- Scouts in Ethiopia are planting and taking care of 50,000 indigenous trees, and also teaching people in their communities about the importance of trees and sustainable development.
Tree planting for Peace in Lesotho
- Scouts in Lesotho are planting 110,000 trees every year from 2006 to 2015 in an effort to prevent soil erosion and to provide firewood and timber for other uses.
