Scouting Building Bridges Between Communities
The 1st Euxton Scouts from Chorley, a non-muslim group, visited the Thinkers Forum Muslim scouts group on Saturday 29th March 2008 at Hayward school, in Bolton. The 1st Euxton scouts group is comprised of young cubs boys and girls as well as male and female cubs leaders.
The day involved spending time with the cub section of the muslim scouts groups, participating in their activities and building meaningful relationships followed by a visit to a local mosque, Noorul Islam, involving interactive presentations, exercises, Q&A and light refreshments.

Both the muslim and non-muslim young people and leaders developed a good lighthearted dialogue and comrade, communicating positively and learning from each others experiences.
Scouting, a faith based organised, provides an excellent opportunity for an exchange of ideas and dialogue between different faiths, whilst maintaining their motto of 'learning through fun'. What better way to build bridges and remove misunderstandings than at a young age where there are less opportunities for prejudice and hatred to take root in peoples mind, as we see so often in wider society today.
We should utilise opportunities within scouting for broad based communication, improving relationships both within and between faith based communities.
There will be an exchange visit reciprocation whereby the Thinkers Forum Muslim scouts group will visit Chorley in the near future.
