NewsGirls Scouting Leads The WayAs part of the ongoing exercise of developing young people intellectually, spiritually, socially and physically the girls scouting has embarked upon a wide range of activities, which have included to date visits to the library, cultural and heritage awareness, ten-pin bowling, eid party, visits to other faith places of worship e.g. churches, etc, visits to the fire station, sleepovers, and international food tasting event. Scouting especially Muslim scouting represents an excellent opportunity to develop young people through a balanced programme of physical and social activities, which allows them to 'learn through fun' whilst retaining their identity and cultural heritage. read moreNew OIC Memorial Day - Developing Strategies On 16-17 May 2008 ICYF-DC and ISESCO held the OIC inter-governmental Meeting of high-level experts in the Istanbul Headquarters. Thinkers Forum compiled a draft report on the "Massacres perpetrated against Muslim Communities throughout the 20th century" which was presented as a working paper for the OIC Inter-governmental Meeting of Experts. The report is to be commissioned as ICYF-DC official document and to analyze the common patterns behind the massacres, the impacts of these events on the general mindset of the Muslim communities and the historic lessons to be drawn out of them. read moreOIC Youth Conference in Egypt Hosts Thinkers Forum OIC Youth Conference - Meeting The Challenges, Making The Changes "Iqraa" The First Islamic Youth Leadership Forum is a comprehensive youth leadership training program jointly organized by Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) represented by Iqraa Organization for Human Relations (IOHR) and Islamic Conference Youth Forum for Dialogue and Cooperation (ICYF-DC), and was held in Cairo, Egypt between 28 May - 6 June 2008. The programme aimed to provide high-level comprehensive training and intellectual development of the best representatives of youth of the OIC countries. As such, a team of young people and volunteers, including Chief Scout Peter Duncan, spent a busy day being interviewed by various national newspapers, TV channels and radio stations. read more Scouting Building Bridges Between Communities The 1st Euxton Scouts from Chorley, a non-muslim group, visited the Thinkers Forum Muslim scouts group on Saturday 29th March 2008 at Hayward school, in Bolton. The 1st Euxton scouts group is comprised of young cubs boys and girls as well as male and female cubs leaders. The day involved spending time with the cub section of the muslim scouts groups, participating in their activities and building meaningful relationships followed by a visit to a local mosque, Noorul Islam, involving interactive presentations, exercises, Q&A and light refreshments. read moreEconomics, Islam & Poverty Alleviation Seminar On the 21st of November 2007 a seminar was held in Bolton, Greater Manchester, U.K. to discuss the causes and solutions to global poverty, and what we as individuals and organisations can do to resolve this issue. A wide range of speakers highlighted the current realities and impact of poverty in the world, and the short, medium and long term work that is being carried out to alleviate poverty for human beings globally. read moreScouts Camping Trip - Learning Life Skills As part of the ongoing process of youth development a camping weekend took place in September 2007, whereby a group of young people went camping in a campsite in Worsely, Greater Manchester. The scouts group stayed overnight from Friday to Sunday, whilst the cubs engaged in activities for the Saturday. The wide variety of activities which further enhanced their physical and spiritual development, included erecting tents, cooking food on wood fire, collecting and chopping wood, as well as practice target shooting and football. The weather was a mixture of rain, wind and sunshine. The teamworking, friendship and behaviour between the enthusiastic young people was visibly improving. The project was ably led by scouts leaders which included Farouk, Ajaz, Farhat and Graham. This project is part of a holistic creative process of youth development. read moreMinister of Education Tours UK The Minister of Education, Mrs Anisa Zeb Tahirkheli, was on a tour of the UK on behalf of the Pakistani government, visiting various members of the community, professionals, educationalists, councillors and organisations in different geographical regions. read more Girls Scouts Open Day In order to raise awareness of scouting amongst the muslim women community and to encourage involvement from their children and parents an open day was held at Hayward School, Bolton on Saturday 18th August 2007. Various experienced speakers from the scouting federation and TF scouts leaders delivered speeches on different aspects of scouting. read more Unity & Brotherhood Seminar As part of the ongoing campaign to raise awareness about unity and brotherhood amongst muslims and between muslims & non-muslims, a successful public event was held on Tuesday 14th August in Bolton, England. The day of the event coincided with celebrations commemorating the creation of Pakistan (East & West), a muslim homeland within the Indian sub-continent. The event focussed on the lifetime, poetry and teachings of the infamous Dr Muhammad 'Allama' Iqbal, and how they inspired millions around the globe towards building a concept of unity and brotherhood, based around the core universal teachings of Islam. read more |
