Poverty AlleviationWho Are The International Bodies Working For Poverty Alleviation ?Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC)
The Organization is sub-divided into different committees:-
Islamic Development Bank (IDB) The IDB was established in l974 by the Organization OIC, but it is primarily an inter-governmental bank aimed at providing funds for development projects in member countries. The IDB provides fee- based financial services and profit-sharing financial assistance to member countries. The IDB operations are free of interest and are based on Shariah Principles.
United Nations (UN) The United Nations was established on 24 October 1945 by 51 countries committed to preserving peace through international cooperation and collective security. Today, nearly every nation in the world belongs to the UN: membership totals 191 countries. The United Nations has six main organs :-
There are 15 Council members. Five of these — China, France, the Russian Federation, the United Kingdom and the United States — are permanent members. The other 10 are elected by the General Assembly for two-year terms. Decisions of the Council require nine yes votes. Except in votes on procedural questions, a decision cannot be taken if there is a no vote, or veto, by a permanent member.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank and 12 other independent organizations (UN Family) work to improve the economic and social condition of people around the world. They report to the General Assembly or the Economic and Social Council. All these organizations have their own governing bodies, budgets and secretariats.
The World Bank, created in 1944, is a source of financial and technical assistance to developing countries around the world and is made up of two unique development institutions owned by 184 member countries - the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) and the International Development Association (IDA). They provide low-interest loans, interest-free credit and grants to developing countries for education, health, infrastructure, communications, etc.
National Governments These are the main instruments which are elected by the people to manage their affairs by providing an infrastructure for their human and socio-economic development locally, nationally and internationally.
NGO’s and Private Bodies Normally voluntary based – providing various community services, however, their role becomes prominent in the absence of good governance.
