Islam Awareness Week : 19-24th Nov 2007 - Bolton, UK



During Islam Awareness Week, Muslim communities throughout the country will be organising a range of activities and events aimed at giving information about their way of life, developing contact with individuals and institutions, promoting social interaction and celebrating art and culture. The organisers of Islam Awareness Week believe it can make a significant and historic contribution to community relations. Islamic Awareness Week was initiated in order to raise awareness surrounding Britain's second largest faith group. For more information on national events, visit www.iaw.org.uk.

 

In Bolton, activities and events will be held throughout November. These are being jointly organised by the Bolton Council of Mosques (BCOM), Bolton Museum, Bolton Interfaith Council, Thinkers Forum, Bolton Community College and others.
 

Events Include:-

 

Quiz

Children at Primary school in Bolton will have the chance to win themselves a brand-new mountain bike as well as a computer for their school. They'll also get the chance to visit the Reebok Stadium for a special presentation ceremony. All they have to do is answer a few multiple choice questions about Muslims in the UK and send them in to be entered into a prize draw.

Entries are limited and only one entry is allowed per child. Children must be of primary school age. For your quiz sheet, call Amaira on 01204 363680.

 

Mosque Visits-  The following four mosques will be open to visitors. For opening times and to book guided visits, contact BCOM on 01204 363680

  • Tayyaibah Mosque, Draycott Street
  • Noorul Islam Mosque, Prospect Street
  • New Medina Mosque, Gower Street
  • Zakriyya Mosque, Peace Street.

 

Islamic Roadshow- A small exhibition on Islam and Muslims in the UK will be touring locations and events around Bolton, including  Business Bolton's “Women's' Networking Event” as part of National Enterprise Week 2007

 

Understanding Islam course – A series of short lectures and classes will be held at Zakariiyya mosque on a daily basis from 19th November to 24th November. Muslim Scouts Group - Thinkers Forum run a Muslim Scouts group every Saturday at Hayward Secondary School, Lever Edge Lane. The boys
Boys session- 10am till 2pm
Girls  session– 1pm till 3pm

Study Circle: Women aged 16+ can meet together, discuss issues in a peer-led, relaxed atmosphere. An open session will be held on Sunday 18th November, 4.30- 5.30 at BCOM offices. Contact Amaira on 01204 363680 for further information.


Women in Islam – Debunking the Myths: Wednesday 21st November at Al-Zahra Community Centre at 12pm till 3. A chance for women of all faiths to gather together and discuss relevant issues. Ladies only.

Poverty Alleviation, Economics and Islam: Wednesday 21st November at 7.15pm at Mecca Mosque Community Centre. The poor people around the world are not in a position to fight for their own rights and freedoms as they are immersed in extreme poverty, and are too busy struggling to acquire basic needs (food, shelter, clothing, education, health) to keep themselves and their families alive. We must campaign and lobby for their rights both as individuals and through organisations / pressure groups. Medical Ethics and Religion: Saturday 24th September, 12.30pm University of Bolton. Organised by the Bolton Interfaith Council.

 

Health & Safety at Hajj Seminar 2007: 10th Nov  A NOT to be missed  event for all intending to perform the Hajj 2007 and to learn about one of the 5th Pillars of Islam - The Journey of a Lifetime - The Hajj. Organised by the Council of British Haji's (Pilgrims) in  association with the Bolton Council of Mosques and Lancashire Council of Mosque. Museum Displays:


Hajj Exhibition
-To coincide with Islamic Awareness Week, Bolton Museum and Archive Service will be hosting a special display that offers local insight into the Islamic pilgrimage to Hajj. Bolton residents give us personal accounts of their once in a lifetime visit to the holy cities Mecca and Medina. The display can be seen on the first floor of the Museum, Aquarium & Archive from 19th November until 21st of December. Open Monday to Saturday, 9am until 5pm. Entry is free.

 

Islamic Artefacts: To celebrate Islam Awareness Week, Zakariyya Central Mosque will be hosting some interesting Islamic artefacts from Bolton Museums and Archive Service. These objects will be on display in the Exhibition Room in the Masjid from 12 November until 21 December 2007.
