NewsMinister of Education Tours UKThe Minister of Education, Mrs Anisa Zeb Tahirkheli, was on a tour of the UK on behalf of the Pakistani government, visiting various members of the community, professionals, educationalists, councillors and organisations in different geographical regions.
This was an opportunity to engage the views of overseas Pakistanis and Muslims as well as to impart progress currently being made within the education sector of Pakistan. Pakistan, is a country whereby a very low proportion of the GDP (3-4%) is spent on education. Literacy rates are approx 35-40% and is one of the major causes of poverty.
The Minister of Education emphasised the fact the future looked positive and medium-long term policies were being put into place to enable Pakistani society to become a leading technology nation. However, most of the progress within Pakistan to date has been in the private sector with the state education system still requiring a complete renewal especially in rural areas.
Thinkers Forum will continue to engage with all stakeholders, private and governmental, in order to improve the infrastructure of Muslim society in the long term.
