Public Discussion : Way Forward for Muslim Community

To discuss and highlight the socio-economic, judicial and political issues within Pakistan which affect the UK Muslim community a public event was held on 16th July in Sheridan Community Centre, Manchester.

A wide spectrum of organisations and individuals, religious and secular, as well as the media (GEO TV, ARY, DM Digital) were in attendance, and included :-

• Imran Khan, former test cricketer-turned-politician
• Nawaz Sharif, former Prime Minister of Pakistan
• Barrister Sultan Mahmood of Azad Kashmir
• Shabaz Sharif, former Government Minister
• Muslim League (N)
• Justice Movement (Tehreek-e-Insaaf)
• Muttahid Majlis Amaal (MMA)
• Thinkers Forum International

and many others.....

Issues for discussion included :-

• Role of overseas Pakistanis
• Contemporary socio-economic and political issues within Pakistan such as
  • fulfilling the needs of the people
  • independence of the judiciary
  • nepotism and rule of law
  • transparent electoral process, restoration of people's power & removal of dictatorship
  • good governance
  • economic upliftment
